October 28- November 6, 2016 (Preview October 27)
PCL Studio in the ATB Financial Arts Barns (10330 84 Avenue)

“I’ll be honest. I’m doing well. Really well. But I’m not gonna pay one cent for her God damn funeral. Call the city. They’ll come, take the body, dump it in the ground before lunch. No charge.”

For Dirdra and Janice, Mom’s dead and it’s a great day. There’s going to be a celebration, and hopefully nothing will go flying out the window – including one of them. A viciously comic and tense fifteen-year reunion between two sisters on the day of their mother’s unforgettable death. Featuring Louise Lambert and Arielle Rombough.   World premiere.

Trevor Schmidt casts two of NLT’s favourite leading ladies in this hilariously weird family dramedy.  Louise Claire Lambert (who won the Sterling for her heart-breaking, beautiful portrayal of Trisha in “The Pink Unicorn” in our 2014-2015 season) and Arielle Rombough (who was nominated for a Sterling for her wacky, quirky portrayal of Maranatha in “The Good Bride” in our 2015-2016 season) unite on stage to play estranged sisters, Dirdra and Janice.

An Ongoing Interview with SISTER SISTER playwright, Barbara Blumenthal-Ehrlich

TREVOR: What was your first inspiration for SISTER, SISTER? (I hate when I get asked this question as a playwright, but...). ...gawd, I'm hoping it's not drawn from real-life experience...

BARBARA: Legend has it that my grandmother had a bit of the crazy in her. Maybe there was some undiagnosed mental illness there. But to hear my mom and aunt tell it, there was also a measure of maternal love. In one account grandma's a beast. In another, she's a loving mother. And that can be in the SAME story! Hearing their tales, I became intrigued by the paper-thin line between familial love and hate and the way we choose to selectively remember our past. From there, I made the artistic leap to SISTER SISTER. It's (hopefully) a vicious comedy about two estranged and volatile sisters reunited for their mother's unforgettable death.

TREVOR: Which brings us to-
2. Do you have a sister?

BARBARA: I have an older sister and we had our share of rivalry, growing up. Now we're quite close and always have each other's backs. In fact when SISTER SISTER had a script-in-hand reading off- Broadway, she flew out from Chicago to hear the play. It was great having her there! The siblings in SISTER SISTER, Dirdra and Janice, are another story. They harbor a childhood mega-grudge against each other that's festered over time. They make a combustible duo, and when they reconnect after 15 years, the childhood pain and conflict — and daggers — comes out in full force.

10 OUT OF 12

Wild Side Productions presents

10 OUT OF 12

by Anne Washburn
October 6 - 16, 2016
The Roxy on Gateway  8529 Gateway Blvd

Presented as part of The Roxy Performance Series
Tickets available here
Call 780 453 2440

After taking the stage at The Roxy on Gateway with last year's critically acclaimed production of The Realistic Joneses, Wild Side Productions returns for an immersive performance that puts you in the middle of the theatrical process.

Anne Washburn's 10 Out of 12  pulls the curtain back on a world unfamiliar to the public, yet very familiar to all practitioners of theatre—a technhical rehearsal.  It lovingly reveals the wonder, whimsy and boredom found in those magical hours in the darkness associated with the process of teching a play.  This Wild Side Production is the Canadian premiere of an immersive experience that turns the tedious process of creating illusion into moments of humor, beauty and strangeness.
