Good Women Dance Collective

Good Women Dance Society (GWDS) is a creation-based company that has been committed to helping create a vibrant and sustainable contemporary dance community in Edmonton since its foundation in 2009. The society's artistic focus is on creating and producing innovative new works with integrity and conviction. GWDS also dedicates a large part of its season toward offering performance, education and professional development opportunities to artists working in Edmonton. Current artistic members Ainsley Hillyard, Alison Kause, Alida Nyquist-Schultz and Kate Stashko are passionate about making contemporary dance more accessible to the general public.

GWDS produces several events each season, including What's Cooking and Simmer, their work-in-progress series, and Convergence, their annual showcase of local contemporary dance. The artistic members also play curatorial roles for the Expanse Movement Arts Festival and Dancefest @ Nextfest. Outside of the society's annual productions, GWDS has performed in numerous festivals and events throughout Alberta and Canada, including Feats Festival of Dance, Dancefest @ Nextfest, the Edmonton Fringe Festival, the Expanse Movement Arts Festival, Skirts Afire, the Prairie Dance Circuit, The Mayors Celebration of the Arts Gala, A.I.R (presented by Dancers' Studio West), the Winnipeg Fringe Festival, and the Toronto Fringe Festival. Wade Krasnow
My passion for animals started at a very young age.  Growing up on a farm I was around domestic animals all the time and I even remember grazing out in the pasture with the cows.  As much as I liked being around domestic animals, it was shows like "Mutual of Omaha" that nourished my desire to work with exotic animals.  After high school I studied Drama and Zoology at the University of Alberta.  During my final, I started volunteering at the Valley Zoo as a travelling interpreter, then a tour guide.  It wasn't long after that I became a zookeeper, working with all types of animals. Working so closely with them, I was able to develop more of an appreciation for them and their unique individual characteristics and personalities.  Wanting to learn more about animal behaviour, I took a leave of absence and did conservation work in South Africa where I participated in tracking and monitoring several different species.  It was a life changing experience.  Currently I am the animal care team leader at the Edmonton Valley Zoo.
