In the Fringe smash hit play, best friends Flora and Fawna (along with their pal, Fleurette) are creating a safe place for girls just like them by launching The NaturElles, a social group with a difference. Come inside the Magic Fairy Ring, and you'll develop wilderness survival skills, collect badges, and learn new campfire songs. No Mean Girls Allowed!

Darrin Hagen - Playwright, Flora, Composer & Sound Designer

Darrin Hagen

Darrin Hagen is an award-winning playwright, composer and drag artiste. He is the author of The Edmonton Queen, which won a Sterling Award and was published in book form by Brindle & Glass Publishing. Darrin is the Artistic Director of Guys In Disguise, which recently celebrated a quarter-century of creating drag comedies that have toured across North America. He has received 7 Sterling awards for his work in the Edmonton theatre scene. Other plays by Darrin include Buddy (nominated for Outstanding New Play); With Bells On (nominated for Outstanding New Play); BitchSlap!; The Neo-Nancies: Hitler’s Kickline; Tornado Magnet: A Salute to Trailer Court Women (published by Brindle & Glass); Flora & Fawna’s Field Trip! (with Fleurette), PsychoBabble and Dragula (all co-written with Trevor Schmidt); PileDriver! (co-written with Wes Borg); Men Are Stoopid, Women are Cra-azy (co-written with  Chris Craddock).  Darrin has created sound and sometimes performed for many Northern Light Theatre productions going back 23 years, including Cinderella (The Real Story), Dog’s Temper, Metastasis, Speech and Debate, 3 Different Heavens, I Google Myself, BiFurious, Motel Hell, and most recently, Mercy of a Storm. In 2005, Hagen was named one of 100 Edmontonians of the Century. To the best of his knowledge, he’s the only Drag Queen on that list. Last year he was inducted into the Q Hall of Fame Canada for his lifelong contribution to the quality of life for Canada’s LGBTQ community.

Trevor Schmidt - Playwright, Fawna, Director, Set & Costume Designer

Trevor SchmidtTrevor Schmidt has been the Artistic Director of Northern Light Theatre for the past 13 years, and involved with NLT for the past 18 years as a performer, director, designer, and playwright, as well as being a multiple Sterling award winner. He has been awarded three times for playwrighting (THE WATERMELON GIRLS, CHANGE ROOM, and FLORA & FAWNA'S FIELD TRIP!), twice for directing (the Canadian premieres of THE 4TH GRADERS PRESENT AN UNNAMED LOVE-SUICIDE and Carol Anne Duffy's THE WORLD'S WIFE). He received the Outstanding Fringe Performance award for the one-man show COFFEE DAD, CHICKEN MOM, AND THE FABULOUS BUDDHA BOI, penned by Nick Green which toured to New York as part of the FRIGID FESTIVAL. As an actor, he has been seen in ANGELS IN AMERICA Part 1: Millennium Approaches, LOVE! VALOR! COMPASSION!, WOMEN BEWARE WOMEN, THE BUSY WORLD IS HUSHED (Outstanding Male Lead Actor nomination) and created the role of Bette Davis in the international touring success BITCHSLAP!.  His plays have been produced across Canada and far away as Australia (MABEL STARK!). He has created and choreographed a one-woman dance piece entitled MARKED for the Expanse Dance Festival that was extended and nominated for a Sterling for Outstanding New Work. Recently, Trevor completed filming the first season of DELMER AND MARTA which will be seen on APTN in 2016.  Trevor was honored to be awarded with the DIALOG Award for Excellence in Artistic Direction as part of the Mayor's Evening for the Arts. He sits on the advisory boards of the Grant MacEwan University Theatre Arts and Red Deer College Theatre Performance and Creation programme and is an Artistic Associate of GUYS IN DISGUISE Theatre company.

Brian Dooley - Fleurette

Brian Dooley

Brian Dooley is an award winning actor and producer.  During the last 30 years  Brian has worked throughout the country and abroad. His skills include directing, writing, producing and performing in a variety of media including radio, animation, film, television and the theatre. Trained and educated at the National Theatre School and Bishop’s University, Brian is currently Artistic Director  of L’UniThéâtre as well as  Director of Play Development at The Citadel Theatre. He has worked  in a variety of shows in several theatres across the country.   Brian draws  inspiration from the Mexican playwright Victor Banda’s fervent  message: “The theatre moves, illuminates, disquiets, disturbs, lifts the spirit, reveals, provokes and violates conventions. It is a conversation shared with society. Theatre is the first art to confront emptiness, shadows and silence to make words, movement, lights and life surge forth.”

Gina Puntil - Stage Manager

Gina Puntil has been very involved with social active theatre in Alberta for the past seventeen years as a Stage Manager, Production Manager, Director, Teacher, and Mentor for young emerging artists.  For the past 8 years she has been working with the Alberta Workers' Health Centre.  She is currently the Guardian [read: Artistic Director / Program Coordinator] of the Work Plays Schools Program.  Gina is proud to bring the important message of Work Place Safety and Worker’s Rights wrapped in a professionally sculpted theatre production to students and young workers.  She is also pretty delighted that Northern Light Theatre has bestowed upon her the pleasure of working with a team of gods and unicorns!  “Well, that's what it feels like.  Everyone on this project is pure magic.  Except for one of you….you know who you are.”

Adam Tsuyoshi Turnbull - Lighting Design

Adam Tsuyoshi Turnbull

Adam Tsuyoshi Turnbull is a multi-talented technician and theatre designer who works in set and lighting design and construction. He is sought-after as an artistic collaborator and his work has been seen on the stages for Northern Light Theatre, Shadow Theatre, Teatro la Quindicina, Fringe Theatre Adventures, L'UniThéâtre, Theatre Yes, multiple high school and performing arts groups, as well as trade shows and conventions. He has served as Production Manager and Site Technical Director for North America's largest Fringe Festival, and currently serves as the Technical Director and Production Manager at Northern Light Theatre. Adam has been honoured with multiple Sterling nominations for design and last year was awarded with a Sterling Award for Outstanding Achievement in Production.
